How to spot a broker posing as an owner (it happens more than you think)
Asked by nobrokersclub in Buying & Selling Advice on June 9, 2026
Since this site is by-owner only, sharing the tells I've learned:
• 'Call my listing manager' — that's a broker. • Won't say where the boat actually is until you 'qualify'. Broker. • The same phone number on six different boats. Broker (check the number on other listings). • Doesn't know basic history: 'when did you replace the impeller?' An owner KNOWS. A broker checks a binder. • Pushes you toward 'their' financing and escrow. Run.
Flag them when you see them — that's what the flag button is for.

The impeller question is genius. Going to ask every seller that from now on like it's a password.

Had exactly this last month — 'owner' couldn't tell me if the boat had ever been hauled. Flagged and moved on.
