With slip prices doing what they're doing (see every other thread in the slips section), I keep meeting cruisers who just… don't pay. Anchor out, dinghy in, free dinghy dock, groceries, repeat. Romantic or miserable? Tell me the real version.

Did it for 8 months. The money is real (saved ~$7k) and so is the weather anxiety. You will become a person who checks three forecast models before breakfast.

The hidden cost is power. Anchoring out full-time means solar + lithium or running the genset until your neighbors hate you. Budget $4-6k for the electrical refit and THEN the anchorage is free.

Romantic 5 nights out of 7. The other 2 it's blowing 25 at 2am and you're standing in the cockpit in your underwear staring at an anchor app. Would not trade it.
